On Monday evening, a massive fire engulfed the spire of Paris’s Notre-Dam Cathedral. The iconic 12th century monument went up in flames in a roaring blaze leaving the world shocked and devastated. As soon as the news broke out, many Bollywood celebrities took to social media to express their sadness. From Arjun Kapoor to Rishi Kapoor to Swara Bhasker, many were left heartbroken at the visuals of the site.
If Arjun Kapoor said, “A piece of history turns into ashes. Our hearts are with the people of France,” Ritiesh Deshmukh added that he is at a loss of words.
Airlift actress Nimrat Kaur called it a “profound loss”. Saand Ki Aankh actress Bhumi Pednekar, on the other hand, said, “there is a sense of loss.”
Vicky Kaushal shared a photo at Notre-Dame as his Instagram story and wrote, “Over 700 years old, The spire of Notre-Dame Cathedral.”
The cathedral, which dates back to the 12th century, features in Victor Hugo’s classic novel, The Hunchback of Notre-Dame. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site that attracts millions of tourists every year.
French President Emmanuel Macron said France would launch a campaign to rebuild the cathedral, including through fundraising efforts and by appealing to “talents” from overseas to contribute, reported Reuters.
“We will rebuild it together. It will undoubtedly be part of French destiny and our project for the years to come,” Macron said.
